I’m harmless. My website address is: https://robertmangeot.com.

Personal data collected and why

If you’ve signed up for website post alerts, then WordPress has registered your email. I don’t spam or sell whatever email address you provide.

Personal and Financial Information

I don’t sell anything on this site. Thus, I’m not aware of features enabled to collect demographic or financial information other than what enables the software. Any enabling features are described below.

I do include links to the magazines, anthologies and other markets that feature my fiction, and they may independently market to you or permit sales transactions. At that point, your privacy business is with them.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site WordPress and its apps collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. WordPress has their Gravatar service privacy policy available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media and Articles

I don’t currently allow third parties to post or administer media or to author or edit content. Only myself, WordPress techs, and InMotion Hosting has any upload or update capabilities for this site. If somehow you are able to upload images to this or any website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

Where contact forms are enabled, I have an automated app that checks for spam and suspicious links. The software also posts language necessary to comply with privacy policies.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on this site you may opt-in to WordPress saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. WordPress sats these cookies last for one year.

This website does not currently permit users to log in. If somehow you have a WordPress or other account and you can log in to this site, WordPress will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

If you can log in, WordPress informs me it will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. That’s what they tell me.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you have visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. I can’t help that.

I frequently include links to other legitimate websites of potential interest. This includes hyperlinks in my blog posts.

Who I share your data with

I don’t share data directly with anyone. This protects you, and it protects me. The only data collected is that which you provide to use this site.

WordPress and InMotion will have their own privacy notices on their home pages that describe how they use data collected as site hosts and developers.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, apparently WordPress retains the comment and its metadata indefinitely. This helpsWordPress recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you register on this website (if you can), this site also stores the personal information you provide in your user profile. You can see, edit, or delete your personal information at any time (except you can’t change your username, that’s a WordPress thing). Website administrators can also see and edit your information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this site, you can request that I erase any personal data held about you. You can further request I delete the comment itself if you’re unable to do so on your own. Happy to do it. Please note I cannot erase any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Currently, this site only retains your data for these reasons.

Where this site sends your data

All comments are checked through an automated spam detection service. You can probably imagine this protects everybody.

My contact information

My contact information is available on my home or bio page. This information is always posted on my page. Remember, I’m a harmless non-bot.

Additional information

How I protect your data

I protect your data by using third-party expert hosts and by not collecting it unless you provide it for commenting here or receiving blog posts or other updates. Like I said, I’m harmless. On purpose.

What data breach procedures are in place

WordPress and its apps provide excellent security against spam and suspicious comments or administrator log-in attempts. No data is retained other than necessary to make the site as smooth an experience for you as possible. Details on this are explained above. In the event InMotion and/or WordPress detect a breach, I follow their instructions on how to remediate.

What third parties I receive data from

I had to think about this one. Best I came up with: Google, WordPress, and other entities provide analytics on site usage, including viewing of specific posts.

What automated decision making and/or profiling I do with user data

I don’t do this. I’m not that smart.

Who I am… I’m an author of fiction and the occasional essay. I’m harmless.
